Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, in 1935. His twin brother Jesse Garon was stillborn. The Presley’s moved to Memphis in 1948. After finishing high school Elvis worked as a truck driver among other jobs. After he had recorded "My Happiness" as a present for his mother in Sam Phillips' SUN studio, he kept asking Phillips for a regular session. The producer finally gave in, but it took yet a few more false starts before Elvis’ take on blues singer Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup’s “That’s Alright” was finally released as his first single on SUN. Phillips produced a total of five singles with the young Elvis on SUN before “selling” him to RCA – the rest is history.
