简介: After releasing Subway Silence (2008) & While I'm awake (2010), collaborating with international artists and performing throughout the world, Giovanca's is presenting her new album … Satellite Love, due September 2013; a tapestry of emotions and experiences woven through sound. It reflects a warm, soulful journey through life, time and rhythms and is a testament of Giovanca's personal and artistic evolution as well as it is a return to her musical roots. All of this resonates in a diverse and instinctive album. It's moving, as life is. Richly cheerful but also melancholic. Giovanca: "I really wanted to intertwine the influence of the music I grew up with, the era I grew up in, with my present life, addressing today's issues. And it was key for me to find kindred spirits to engage in this process". Therefore, the choice to co-produce her third album with the duo 'Nelson & Djosa' (NL) was easily made. They've been long time friends, used to be in a band together and share the same passion for soul/jazz music from the 70's & early 80's. Giovanca: "When you almost literally have the same vinyl collection, you know you make a perfect match." "Flute, harp, vibes, horns, percussion, glockenspiel, vintage synths. The sound was clear to us. I wanted cosmic vibes. So we put our heads together to find the right musicians to create the magic we were looking for, starting with selecting the core band comprised of amazing players, all with strong affinity and passion for our mutual musical ancestors.” Keys: Brandon Coleman -LA- (Thundercat, Rachelle Ferrel) Bass: Alex Bonfanti -UK- (Joss Stone, Flying Lotus, Renée Neufville) Drums: Nathan Allen -UK- (Amy winehouse, Faith Evans) Percussion: Grammy award winning Pernell Saturnino -CU (Dee Dee Bridgewater, Chick Corea) Guitar: Rory Ronde -NL (Benny Sings, Wouter Hamel) Recording the album felt like a family project. The joined production combined with Giovanca's signature light-feathered voice delivers a richly layered feel-good album that makes listeners want to both chill-out in reflection and dance. About the writing process: Giovanca: "Of course it all began with writing. I wrote in my little studio with Rory, who has become a close friend since our time together in the Benny Sings band. I wrote with DJ Simbad (UK) in his studio, with Peter Bergman (NL), a talented bass player & composer, in a classroom, living room, attic and even in the garden. The contribution of Nelson & Djosa as co-writers with a signature style was incredibly important as well, So the writing process itself took place in many different contexts and with different people, but when put together it was surprisingly cohesive.” The end result is spherical, playful and deep at the same time, taking you in and out of different worlds, different spaces and places. Like Alice in Wonderland or maybe even more like Dorothy in The Wiz. Concept An album made in an era in which we all connect and share through satellite. From baby pictures to wedding pictures, holiday snapshots, new hairdos, break ups, choice of breakfast, nights out, opinions, promotion, music... We negotiate, we fight, we rescue, we live and love through satellite. The songs on this album touch on subjects such as unconditional, heartbreaking love, loss, competition and the craziness of life. Today's experiences wrapped in a warm sound of Giovanca's favorite era. "Technology keeps evolving but life remains so intangible. And as futuristic elements expand, our nostalgia, my nostalgia for the seventies, eighties and even nineties tends to expand even more."
