继两年前备受乐评人赞赏的《Solace》（慰籍）专辑之后，为了追求更多元化，Dae Kim出走自己的舒适区，在音乐的路上持续他的探索与冒险。而他的这张全新EP《Redemption》（救赎），肯定是Dae Kim音乐探索旅程记录里另一张让人刮目相看的专辑。 　　《Redemption》乃是马来西亚独立音乐厂牌mü-nest的『Music for Home』系列的第二弹。这个系列是以音乐来诚实地反映出在疫情蔓延时刻，我们在居家生活里的微妙心情与氛围。 　　《Redemption》聚集了Dae Kim近年来在音乐上的所见所闻，继而精巧地编织出多样的曲风。《Reductive Ruin》（废墟还原）renshi叙述的是一个灾后在瓦皪碎片重新建设、在失望里寻找残存希望的故事。《Lingering Lash》（挥之不去的惩罚）则往另外一个方向发展：当我们自觉破坏是自己造成的，下定决心破坏停止，那也成了一种救赎。在《A Song For The Wounded》（伤者之歌）里，我们终于得到了领悟，不再钻牛角尖，所有的拥有与失去，都是未来的基石。 　　对于这张全新EP，Dae Kim写下了这么一段文字：『三个月的隔离孤寂，赠与我的是三首美丽的音乐。比我两年前的作品，它们显得更有自信和更有勇气，技术上也更加纯熟。我可以自豪地说这些歌曲已经不需要任何修饰了。』 　　Two years have been passed since Dae Kim’s debut effort,Solace,was released.In need of diversion,he drew attention to circumstances that was unusual to his forte,ranging from producing for singer-songwriters to several yet to be released projects.The exploration,in which allowed him to diversify and improve his compositional ability and musicianship that obeys electro-acoustic driven solo efforts,ended with Dae’s latest single,Clemency.To embellish his carefully curated discography,he returns with the latest EP entitled,“Redemption”. 　　As the 2nd instalment from the"Music for Home"series curated by mü-nest label-a series that focuses on home-listening music that captures the mood and feelings of our daily life during this unprecedented period in pandemic,“Redemption”centres heavily around the original intention of music making,in isolation.An absolution of every places,that Dae’s love of music has visited in past years up until present.The ambiguity of drones layering one another to create intricate textures,that slowly reveal musical motifs,obviously draws off from the work of“A Winged Victory for the Sullen”.Despite his musical foundation of Ambient Electronic,the songs obey strictly to the value of entertainment,trying to fulfil musically rich arrangement without any measures that repeats without certain progression.For instance,straight-forward,minimal yet enhanced by its layers of texture,created through various of methods and sources from sampling to a synthesizer is a clear homage to IDM or trip-hop artists such as Four Tet,Boards of Canada and Autechre.With the melodies that carries the song forward,the EP becomes much more apparent with such intentions.While glistening ostinated and minimal guitar lines states clear influence likes of“The Strokes”,in context,for the first time,he tries to remain his thoughts in communal aspects.Through the titles of the songs,he expresses every individuals pursuit for redemption without involving personal stories.In result of infusing several contradicting factors,it creates scenically descriptive pieces. 　　On the first song entitled,“Reductive Ruin”,we are faced with circumstances that is beyond repair.Nothing can be undone and the only remains are failures and mistakes.As we start to scavenge through broken pieces of the aftermath,we pick up everything that is worth the second look to be saved.With a little glimpse of hope,we quickly react to halt further damaging what is left behind in order to seek for redemption. 　　The second song off of the EP,“Lingering Lash”,is about contradiction.As we have managed to stop ourselves from further destruction,self-flagellation is what greets the next stage of achieving redemption.As there is constant exertion to search for hope,the optimism is threatened in presence of the pain,that is caused by the fact that the failures were caused by none other than ourselves.There is no one else to be blamed for the circumstances that we are in.A little glimpse to hope creates more frustration and anger as we are concerned if the determination in pursuit will pay off eventually. 　　Third song,“A Song For The Wounded”,as the title suggests,is a reminder that there always is a place for the wounded ones.The song expresses that there is never a definite answer to any questions that's raised.Life flows as it is and as it was.As we seek for something that doesn’t exist in the first place,life can easily end in meaningless search.The absolution to a redemption is to let go off the failures and past mistakes.So we can stop the search and by letting go,we build stronger foundation for the future to lay its ground. 　　To quote the composer,“Three months of grieve and isolation has gifted me with three beautiful songs.They were two years more mature and wiser than my debut album.A work that held its obedience to the writer’s instinct holds honesty,that is incomparable.I proudly present the EP with full ride and confidence,and that there are nothing more to change and polish.I won’t touch even a single note”.
