简介: AFI readied fans for some big news earlier this week, they just didn’t know what it was going to be. After going black on their social media channels, the influential alt rock / punk act has revealed the title of their 10th studio effort, AFI (The Blood Album) and in a double (make that triple) dose of good news, they’ve just unleashed two new songs.
The group has set Jan. 20 as the release date of the successor to 2013’s Burials, and the new album will be their first on Concord Records. Their new self-titled album was produced by the band's guitarist, Jade Puget, and co-produced by Matt Hyde (Deftones) and is the follow-up to 2013's Burials, which hit Top 10 on the Billboard 200. Since the release of 1995's debut album Answer That and Stay Fashionable, AFI has written and recorded five top ten hit singles ('Miss Murder,' 'Medicate,' 'Love Like Winter,' 'Silver and Gold,' 'Girl's Not Grey'), hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (with the stunning Decemberunderground), garnered worldwide critical acclaim and amassed a fiercely loyal global following whose members number in the millions.
“White Offerings”, comes in at under three minutes and is one of the most instantly catchy songs the band has ever penned. Featuring a lumbering, moody rhythm textured by a thick lead tone, frontman Davey Havok bobs and weaves amidst the serpentine energy. As for “Snow Cats,” it dials back the intensity, aiming for a distinctively lighter mood over the verse and boasts a fuzz-drenched, despondent chorus.
“White Offerings” and “Snow Cat” are both available as instant gratification downloads through iTunes as well as Amazon. The record was recorded at Megawatt Studios in Los Angeles and was produced by guitarist Jade Puget with the renowned Matt Hyde joining in co-production.
While the news is a pleasant surprise from the AFI camp, fans were likely expecting to hear new music from Havok’s new project featuring No Doubt‘s Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal and Adrian Young. The collaboration was announced back in February earlier this year, but no word on their progress has been made available as of this time.
