简介: What can you say about James Brown? In my humble opinion, he's the best that ever did it and got away with it. I have more music by JB than any other single artist or group in my collection on vinyl LP & 45, cassette and CD. What's so great about this compilation is that there are some good songs on here that I never heard before like Good Good Lovin',Shout and Shimmy, I Don't Mind, Just You and Me Darlin' etc; probably recorded earlier that the more popular songs like Out of Sight,There Was a Time, I Got that Feelin', Cold Sweat, Say It Loud(I'm Black and I'm Proud), Talkin' Loud and Sayin' Nothin' and the rest of the songs he recorded during the mid to late 60's and early 70's. The former set of songs tend to be a little more melodic than the funk standards in the 2nd group of songs I mentioned.
I basically bought this CD for 1 song "STONE FOX" a song (I've been chasing for years) originally recorded (vocally) by JAMES CRAWFORD for the KING label. Pretty sure this song is a JB production because it's sounds like it's JB's band playing. This version is an instrumental of the original vocal version by CRAWFORD. In place of the vocal there is an ongoing guitar solo, probably by JB stable guitarist JIMMY NOLAN. Well I didin't get it this time but hopefully in the future KING/POLYDOR records will issue a compilation with the vocal version of STONE FOX on it. Over all though this is a great JB compilation. Would recommend it for those who are new to his music as well as the seasoned fan.
