Gabriele Ferro is an Italian conductor and pianist. Born on 15/11/1935 in Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy, he's the son of the composer Pietro Ferro. Gabriele Ferro completed his studies of piano, composition and orchestra direction at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia, Rome. In 1970 he won the competition for young orchestra conductors announced by the Italian broadcasting network RAI. He has collaborated regularly with the RAI Orchestras, the Orchestra Santa Cecilia and La Scala. He got international approvals conducting the Wiener Symphoniker, Bamberger Symphoniker, Orchestre de La Suisse Romande, Orchestre Philarmonique de Radio France, BBC Symphony Orchestra and the WDR Orchestra. He also collaborated with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre National de France. He was permanent conductor of the Symphonic Sicilian Orchestra (1979-1997), principal conductor of the RAI Orchestra (1989-1991) and music director of Stuttgart Staatstheater (1991-1997). His repertoire ranges from classical music to contemporary, inclusive of many world premieres. Since 1978, he also dedicated himself to opera, visiting many of the world's leading opera houses. He has also been the guest of oustanding international festivals. In September 1999, he became permanent conductor of Teatro San Carlo in Naples, and in June 1999, Musical Director.
