Formed in 2009, Matrimony is an indie folk-pop family band from Charlotte, North Carolina fronted by Charlotte native Ashlee Hardee Brown (vocals/keys) and her husband, Irish expat Jimmy Brown (vocals/guitar). The band also includes Ashlee's two brothers, C.J. Hardee (mandolin/banjo) and Jordan Hardee (drums). After relocating from Belfast to America, Jimmy Brown found himself in Charlotte, playing in various bands and working as a solo artist. After playing some shows with each of the Hardee brothers, he was introduced to their younger sister Ashlee and the two hit it off. Rather than continuing to pursue their own solo projects, Ashlee and Jimmy decided to join forces, playing as a duo in regional clubs and bars. In 2010 they recorded an EP, The Storm and the Eye, after which C.J. and Jordan officially joined the band, completing their lineup. Over the next two years, the band hit the road, sharing stages with everyone from Langhorne Slim to Passion Pit. In 2012, they headed to Nashville to begin work on their first LP with producer Jay Joyce (Brandi Carlile, Cage the Elephant), eventually inking a deal with Columbia Records. Released in May 2014, their debut album, Montibello Memories, is named after the Hardees' family home.
