New York-based duo Beau make quirky singer/songwriter pop that straddles the line between atmospheric '60s folk and frenetic late '70s punk. The group features the talents of singer/songwriters Heather Golden and Emma Jenney. Growing up the children of painters in Greenwich Village, Golden and Jenney became childhood friends. Encouraged to pursue their creative interests, they both acted and modeled in their teens. However, by the age of 13 they had taught themselves guitar and began writing songs together. Influenced by a mix of classic artists like Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and the Zombies, as well as modern alternative folk musicians like Devendra Banhart, they initially performed around N.Y.C. as the Boos. However, after traveling to France in their late teens, they renamed themselves Beau after the masculine term for beautiful. Although music is their primary focus, Golden and Jenney have remained connected to the fashion and art world, modeling for Opening Ceremony and working with photographer Ryan McGinley. The duo's self-titled EP appeared in 2015. In 2016, Beau released their full-length debut album, That Thing Reality, on Kitsuné/Sony Red. ~ Matt Collar
