Native of Bordeaux, France, Laurent Eyquem (pronounced /AAY/-kem) began his classical training as a pianist at 6 years of age at the urging of his father, a musician with the Bordeaux Orchestra. This marked the beginning of a life-long passion for music and an auspicious beginning to his career as a composer for film. 　　Laurent Eyquems critically acclaimed film-scoring debut for Lea Pools Mommys at the Hairdresser in 2008 garnered three major nominations, one each for the Genies and the Jutras (Canadas Academy Awards) and one for the ADISQ awards (Canadian Grammies). He has since gone on to score a series of feature films, recently completing Winnie, the Winnie Mandella biopic starring Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson and Oscar nominee Terrance Howard. For the score of Winnie, Laurent was granted the rare privilege of writing for and recording with the famed Soweto Gospel Choir, and also had the great honor to orchestrate and arrange the end credit song written by music industry legend Diane Warren, and performed by Jennifer Hudson. 　　His success as a composer came about despite a series of major personal setbacks, including what could have been a fatal accident in 2003. Laurents challenges began in 2000 when he lost his younger sister and only sibling in the crash of the Air France Concorde. In the aftermath of this tragedy, his father developed an aggressive form of cancer and died 3 short years later. Shortly after, Laurent survived a 30-foot fall from a rooftop, but suffered serious injuries. A series of operations in Canada and Europe, 2 years of daily physiotherapy and sheer force of will perfectly restored his ability to play piano and compose. 　　Today, with these difficult chapters behind him, Laurent channels his life experience into eloquent and powerful music for film. He has developed a reputation among producers and directors as a versatile, prolific and collaborative composer. Laurent composes music for both North American and International markets. 　　He is known for his original style - sometimes described as evoking shades of film composing legends Georges Delerue and Jerry Goldsmith - that enhances the emotional weight of the visuals it supports. Rooted in the classical tradition and influenced by his European sensibilities, Laurents compositions are powerfully evocative and emotionally charged. With compositions ranging from intimate and spare solo pieces to large orchestral works, Laurent has the versatility to create music across a variety of themes and styles. 　　Laurent records his projects with soloists, symphonic orchestras and choirs from around the globe. He serves as lead orchestrator and conductor on all of his projects, and has a strong Los Angeles-based support team in place to deliver top-notch results. 　　Based in Los Angeles, Laurent also holds passports from both France and Canada.
