by Cyril CordorWhile Don Omar and Daddy Yankee were crossing over into the pop mainstream with their international hits "Reggaeton Latino" and "Gasolina," respectively, Yomo was still developing in the reggaeton breeding ground. Yomo, real name José Alberto Torres Abreu, grew up in the barrio of Tres Puntos in Humacao, Puerto Rico, but was actually born in Chicago, IL, in the U.S. Before becoming a professional artist, he used to work as a handyman on Puerto Rico's Palmas del Mar Beach. His first taste of success came in the form of the hot single "Dejale Caer To' el Peso," which charted in the Top 40 of Latin Hot Tracks in 2006. His song was featured on the 2005 compilation Sangre Nueva, which was composed by reggaeton veteran Hector "El Father" and producer Naldo to promote new, up-and-coming talent.
