Francesco Buccarella was born in Rome in a family of musicians and began studying piano at the age of four with his mother Maria Teresa Garatti, continuing under the guidance of Adalberta Spada. He graduated at 16, with honors, at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia. Later he attended master classes at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, graduating in piano in 1987 with Lya De Barberiis and in chamber music in 1996 with Felix Ayo. He then followed courses held by Konstantin Bogino.   His concert debut dates back to 1982 when he was chosen after a selection in Italian Conservatories, leading to the International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo and since then he has played in numerous concerts, earning awards in national and international competitions. He has recorded for Radio Yugoslavia, the Hungarian Radio, the Canadian Radio, for the Italian RAI and Vatican Radio and has participated as guest artist in many recordings for Philips and Deutsche Grammophon. Since 2004 he has been the harpsichordist in the famous Italian group I Musici. He regularly works with the National Academy of St. Cecilia, with their Orchestra, on the piano, harpsichord and electronic keyboards, and as official pianist for the postgraduate violin course.   Since 1998 Francesco Buccarella has been teaching piano at the State Conservatory in Monopoli where he also runs classes for sight-reading and new musical languages as part of the academic programs.
