Sujesh Sambasivan- better known by his stage name Emcee Jesz @ Kavithai Gundar is a Malaysian Tamil rapper, music producer and lyricist from Kuala Lumpur.
He kick started his hip hop journey at the mare age of 18, performing at various local underground rap scenes and cultural events.
His novelty and articulacy very much appealed to Yogi B after watching him perform at an underground hiphop gig in 2002 and immediately singed him under his maiden label Boombox Records.
Following that, in 2006 Emcee Jesz was introduced as the ‘Nachatra’; the lieutenants of the most celebrated Hip Hop album, Vallavan by Yogi B & Nachatra – eventually making them the pioneers of Tamil Hip Hop.
Vallavan brought a brand new breeze to the Tamil Rap Industry and became a global sensation. Songs like ‘Madai Thiranthu’ and ‘Indian Girls’ won the hearts of listeners and became an overnight fad.
He then soon made his mark and became personage in the rap community, eventually winning him opportunities to work with prominent Indian composers like Yuvan Shankar Raja, Vijay Anthony, Dharan, Harris Jeyaraj and D Imman, advancing him to record songs for over 12 commercial films in Tamil Cinema.
In 2009, Emcee Jesz launched Kavithai Gundar, an international Tamil Hip Hop album with Studio 8 Productions, India. The album was launched in Chennai by actress and singer - Shruthi Hassan.
He made it as the first Malaysian Tamil artist to be signed under an Indian label and it was also Studio 8 first ever affiliation with a Malaysian Rap artist.
The album that comprised 13 tracks featured local and international talents – including Indian recording artist Neha Bhasin.
He then subsequently went on performing not only in Malaysia and Chennai but also for international gigs in Singapore, Sri Lanka, Canada, United Kingdom and the USA.
Over the years, Emcee Jesz earned more than 30 million hits on Youtube. He has appeared in the silver screens for original movie soundtracks such as Laadam, Kuruvi and Masilamani.
Kavithai Gundar succeeded tremendously in every possible manner in the industry, including an award for the ‘Most popular Artiste Award 2009’ by THR Raaga, the leading Tamil radio channel in Malaysia.
In 2015 Emcee Jesz signed with Indian film director Abbas Akhbar to play the protagonist in an upcoming Tamil film ‘Chennai to Singapore’.
He is also working on his latest Hip Hop album that is set to be released in 2016.
