Born in Switzerland, Nathan Stornetta started learning music at the age of eight, focusing on drumming and, later on, piano. In 2010, he graduated from the HEMU of Lausanne with a BMus in Jazz Drumming and Composition, also winning the “Friedlwald Stieftung” award supporting the best jazz students of Switzerland each year. Stornetta enrolled at Royal College of Music in London in 2010 where he studied Composition for Screen and electives such as orchestration, electro-acoustic music and pop song writing with reputable teachers such as Vasco Hexel, Howard Davidson and Ken Hesketh. In 2011, Stornetta won the Joseph Horowitz prize for Best Portfolio in Composition for Screen as a result of his work over the academic year 2010-11. He completed his MComp in 2012 with an overall Distinction. Since his graduation, Stornetta has been working "on and off" as a London-based assistant to Remote Control Production composers Lorne Balfe (The Sweeney, The Bible, Restless, Filth) and Hans Zimmer (Interstellar, Gladiator, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Sherlock Holmes, Pirates of the Caribbean). He also composed two original tracks for Sandra Nettelbeck's movie: Mister Morgan's Last Love (original soundtrack by HZ) and programmed two tracks for the orchestral adaptation of the famous Quadrophenia album (Pete Townsend, The Who). April 2013 saw Stornetta working at Abbey Road Studios as Booth Reader for the recording of Fast and Furious 6. This project allowed him to arrange percussion parts for the film and collaborate with Jeff Atmajian, one of Hollywood's top orchestrator (King Kong, The Village, Batman Begins) – a working relationship that continues on. In Winter 2014, Zimmer offered Nathan to join him in Los Angeles, where he spent 5 months collaborating on films such as “Chappie”, “Boxing” and “The Little Prince”. After this incredible experience, Nathan Stornetta moved back to Switzerland where he now works from his home-studio. He keeps in touch with Hans Zimmer, who invited him as part of the core band of his 2016 European Live Tour.
