原名Keith Elam的Guru (Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal)出生于1966年 7月17日 ,在Gang Starr时期为著名导演Spike Lee所赏赐,邀请Gang Starr为其影片《Mo Better Blues》献唱,因此声名大噪.1993年Guru自己玩音乐,以Guru's Jazzmatazz之名 ,身兼Rapper与编曲,集合了包括Ronny Jordan、N'Dea Davenport...等人助阵,发表了首张个人专辑[Jazzmatazz Vol. 1],为Soul、Jazz乐坛立下了新指标 ,也是Guru对于Hip-Hop和Jazz融合的新主张.1995年的专辑[Jazzmatazz Vol. 2 - The New Reality],与Chaka Khan、Jamiroqual...等人,再度激发惊喜. 从Gang Starr到Jazzmatazz,Guru的第三张个人专辑[Jazzmatazz Vol. 3 - Streetsoul],回到街头寻找灵魂之声,透过Street Sound的Hip-Hop,发现来自底层的生命所在;以Soul音乐为主轴,升华Jazz、R B,与雷鬼音乐的光辉.首支单曲 "Keep Your Worries",由具有Soul、Gospel味道的女唱将Angie Stone跨刀, 带来R&B乐坛最受欢迎的烟味(Smokey) 唱腔. 2010年4月19日，Guru因肺癌病逝。 　　Keith Edward Elam (July 17, 1966 – April 19, 2010), better known by his stage name Guru (a backronym for Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal), was an American rapper, producer, and actor best known as a member of the hip-hop duo Gang Starr, along with DJ Premier.
