Some nights are long and

Sometimes she'll sleep the whole day through

I get the feeling

There ain't always much that I can do

So we just stay at home again

Make up a lie to tell our friends

Why am I here singin' a song for a sad girl

Why am I writing poetry about her smile

Why ain't she living like a king of the whole world

While everything around her is going out of style

She don't talk about the weather

Hates it when I say she's with the band

She jokes about her cancer

And we laugh at things that she don't understand

Then she'll get high and dance around

To darkness on the edge of town

Why am I here singing a song for a sad girl

Why am I writing poetry about her smile

Why ain't she living like a king of the whole world

Well I guess happy takes a while
