Goldene Kette - Schandmaul

High on the pinnacle the beautiful maiden waits

from far away hearing the father, the armor rattling

He comes from war, to relax at the fireplace

the winter comes, the time of peace will do good

"Welcome, dear father. How have you been?

Hear, the bards sing of your bravery.

I have always prayed virtuosly and thought of you.

Did you bring something for your daughter?"

"Take the golden necklace,

I brought death to a foe for it.." (2x)

As the daughter becomes aware of the trinket,

she begins to weep, the father cut to the quick

instead of being happy, she yells at him

she takes away the treasure and runs away

The golden necklace - recognized by the maiden

recently, in spring, she gave it away

as a token of love, deep in the woods

she gave it to her lover during an endearing hour

"Take the golden necklace,

as a sign of the love deep in me.." (2x)

She runs to foreign lands, finally finds his grave

it said "Here rests a lad slain in battle"

she kneeled down and waited for death

and as he came for her, she gave him the trinket

"Take the golden necklace,

bring me to my lover..." (8x)
