简介: by Andrew Hamilton Neither anticipation nor expectation were as high with this pairing as they were when Motown recorded the Supremes and the Temptations together at the peak of their careers. The Supremes were minus Diana Ross, and like the Four Tops, were no longer automatic Top 40 crashers. Their waning careers made many overlook these recordings featuring Levi Stubbs and Jean Terrell's exhilarating leads. The combo cut three albums and each has it moments. This, the best-selling one, reached number 113 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart and glistened with an update of Ike and Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High." With the exception of "Knock on My Door," the whole LP consists of remakes, including "Stone Soul Picnic" (the 5th Dimension), "For Your Love" (Ed Townsend), "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" (Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell), "It's Got to Be a Miracle (This Thing Called Love)" (Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston), and fiery versions of "Together We Can Make Such Sweet Music" (the Spinners) and Sly Stone's "Everyday People."
