David W Johnstone (born 19th February 1987), otherwise known as D J, is an Australian musician and singer/songwriter. 　　 　　David W Johnstone was born in Sydney, New South Wales and is of Malaysian and Australian descent. David first started to learn guitar at the age of 7 when he was first introduced to guitar by his mother. 　　 　　When David was in the 5th grade at school he was always around kids that were jamming out on the guitar. This soon lead towards David learning new techniques and chords as well as giving himself more of a level eye view on the theory side of guitar. 　　 　　In 1999 David was enrolled at Castle Hill High School in the hills area of Sydney, NSW Australia. Throughout Year 7 David found himself always around the music side of it all with things such as Musicals & jazz/rock bands. By Year 9 he was directing 80 percent of his time towards developing skill on instruments such as guitar, bass, drums and vocals and the other 20% on school work. He was never the average normal guy at school and most times was looked down on by most school peers for his unique/different style. The positive side to it all really gave him more time to focus on his music career which he soon noticed himself benefiting from. 　　 　　Since David left High School in 2002 he has always been a part of the Sydney music scene playing in different local bands/groups and earnt a respected name throughout it. David has also played at venues like Sydney Entertainment Centre, The Manning Bar & The Gaelic Club. 　　 　　In December 2008 David took his very first solo material into Electric Sun Studios located in Arndell Park NSW with producer Shane 'Buddha' Edwards and recorded a two track demo with songs 'Helpless' and 'This Cannot Be Real'. 　　 　　David (D J) is currently writing and working on his debut release which he will head into the studio early August 2011 to record with producer Rohan Kumar at Broken Sound Studios in Parramatta NSW
