简介: by Scott YanowThe extraordinary jazz vocal group, Lambert, Hendricks & Ross had debuted in 1957 with Sing a Song of Basie during which they recreated his orchestra with their overdubbed voices. That album was so successful that the following year they were able to actually team up with the Basie band. Frank Foster put down on paper the original head arrangements of the '30s and '40s for the orchestra, leaving space for the vocalists to recreate the original solos. The result is a colorful and swinging set. Best is a version of "Goin' to Chicago Blues" that has Joe Williams taking his original vocal while Lambert, Hendricks & Ross sing around him.
