Laurent Alvaro was born in Bordeaux. After several years of intensive musical training in his native city he joined the company of the Lyon Opera. He performed numerous roles in that capacity including: Demetrius (Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Schaunard (La Bohème) and Jupiter (Orphée aux Enfers). His bass-baritone repertoire enables him to tackle major roles both in France and abroad: Golaud (Pelléas et Mélisande) at the Opéra-Comique, the four Devils (The Tales of Hoffmann) in Lyon and Tokyo (Laurent Pelly) then in Rouen and Versailles (Frédéric Roels), the Marquis de La Force (Dialogues des Carmélites) in Lyon and Toulon, and Pandolfe (Cendrillon) at the Opéra-Comique, the Vienna Konzerthaus, in Saint-Étienne and Luxembourg. In concert, he has performed Crespel (The Tales of Hoffmann) at the Salle Pleyel, under the baton of Marc Minkowski, and Wotan (Rheingold) and Frère Léon (Saint François d’Assise) in Montreal under the baton of Kent Nagano. His other roles include Frank Maurrant (Kurt Weill’s Street Scene), Leandro (The Love For Three Oranges), Pietro (La Muette de Portici), Ramiro (L’Heure Espagnole) and Albert (Werther).   He made his debut at the Nederlandse Opera of Amsterdam in the roles of Thoas (Iphigénie en Tauride) and Arcas (Iphigénie en Aulide) and at the Teatro Real in Madrid as Ragueneau (Alfano’s Cyrano de Bergerac). He also took part in the world premiere production of Thierry Escaich’s opera Claude directed by Olivier Py at the Lyon Opera. More recently, he sang the role of Mephistopheles (La Damnation de Faust) at the Bordeaux Opera and Don Alfonso (Così fan Tutte) in Rouen. His other roles include Count Capulet (Romeo and Juliet) in Madrid, the Speaker of the Temple (The Magic Flute) at the Nice Opera, Golaud at the Toulon Opera, in Malmö, Sweden and the Limoges Opera. He has made regular guest appearances at the Théâtre du Châtelet (Donner in Rheingold, and Morald in Wagner’s Die Feen, Max in The Sound of Music, Seth Brundle in Howard Shore’s The Fly…).   He perfected his vocal skills in the recital, Lied and mélodie repertoire with Ruben Lifschitz and he recently sang his first Winterreise. His accompanying pianists include Hélène Lucas, Nathalie Dang, Sabine Vatin, David Zobel, Michaël Guido, Pascal Roger and Jean-François Zygel.
