The Irish Film Orchestra is one of europe's longest established recording session orchestras Creative performance is to the highest standard of international film, television and soundtrack recording. Like all great session orchestras, the Irish Film Orchestra comprises top freelance and orchestral players who hold or have held the most senior positions in their respective fields. Unlike many session orchestras the Irish Film Orchestra boasts a continuity of players, and hence style and tonality, arising from its twenty seven year history. This has been compounded by the more recent annual performances at the Wexford Festival Opera, where the orchestra performs under the guise of ‘The Wexford Festival Orchestra’. Now in its eighth season, the orchestra has been described in ‘The Irish Times’ as the best orchestra in 30 years of the festival's history. Previous incumbents have been the Czech Philharmonic and the (RTE) National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. Versatility and flexibility are by-words: from the rare talents of ethnic musicians, such as those who performed on Riverdance, to the multi-genre ensembles required of extravaganzas such as the Eurodisney music package, the MTV Europe Awards and the Radio City Christmas Spectaculars. Players are drawn from both Dublin and London. The orchestra contractor, Caitriona Walsh, was previously general manager of the London Chamber Orchestra, responsible for concert seasons and recordings which have won many international awards. Above all, major international clients, from composers, arrangers and artistes, to broadcasters and studios, have all found dublin to be the most inspirational, warm and supportive creative environment in which to work.
