Corey Cott (born March 30, 1990) is an American stage actor and singer. He is known mostly for his performance of "Sometimes" during a Broadway Loves Britney event in late 2016. He is also known for his role in Newsies as the leading role Jack Kelly after replacing Jeremy Jordan on September 5, 2012 and closing August 24, 2014, as well as in recent short films.
Hailing from Spring Arbor, Michigan and Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Cott grew up with one of his future Newsies co-stars, Ben Fankhauser, performing together in multiple shows, including Les Miserables, Sweeney Todd, Jesus Christ Superstar, Urinetown, and Rent. While attending Carnegie Mellon University, Cott learned that Newsies was looking for a Jack Kelly standby. After auditioning, he was called back the following week and received the job. "It was about being in the right place at the right time," Cott said. Cott took over from original lead Jeremy Jordan as the principal on September 5, 2012 and continued with the show until closing on August 24, 2014.
Since then, he has appeared as Gaston Lachaille in the musical Gigi alongside Vanessa Hudgens, which opened on April 8, 2015 on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre and closed on June 21, 2015.
Cott took part in the world premiere of the new original musical, The Bandstand, directed and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, which premiered at the Paper Mill Playhouse, New Jersey from October 8, 2015 through November 8. The musical has music by Richard Oberacker and book and lyrics by Robert Taylor and Oberacker.[5] On November 5, 2015, it was officially announced that The Bandstand will be transferring to Broadway for the 2016-2017 season featuring Cott and the show's leading lady Laura Osnes. The musical will premiere on Broadway at will premiere on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on April 26, 2017 after starting previews on March 31.
Cott has been married to Meghan Woollard since January 5, 2013. They are expecting their first child in the spring of 2017. Cott is very open about his Christianity.
