It's one thing when an amateur Internet mash-up attracts the artist who's being mashed, but singer, songwriter, and masher Lucas Dipasquale's story goes further with an eventual Canadian/Caribbean connection. Born and raised in Markham, Ontario, Dipasquale joined the fray of acoustic Internet cover artists and strummed then uploaded his way through songs by Maroon 5, Louis Armstrong, and Ed Sheeran, with the occasional unexpected choice, like his mashing of numerous Young Jeezy hits. After hearing Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan -- and first thinking it was hip-hop -- he became a big fan, and uploaded his "Popcaan Mashup" in 2014 and released his debut effort, The Dorm Room EP, that same year. As the "Popcaan Mashup" caught on virally, Popcaan began promoting it himself and invited Dipasquale to Jamaica for a slot on the island's Dream Weekend music festival. Now signed to EMI, and familiar to the dancehall elite, Dipasquale recorded the single "Do It Like" with reggae artists Kardinal Offishall, Konshens, and Stylo G. The track landed on Dipasquale's 2015 EP Post-Secondary.
