Lucia, or by her full name, Lucia – Maria Popescu, is only 18 years old, but don’t let her age fool you, for her voice is truly unique. “Silence”, her first song, got directly from anonymity to over 4.500.000 views on YouTube, as we can now say that Lucia’s fans are spread all over the world. The video for her new song, “Me Over You”, was a huge surprise for her fans and a proof that she’s here to stay.
Lucia’s story begins in 2011, on the small balcony of her parents’ apartment, with a guitar, a digital camera and a strong will to get noticed by her favorite local band – “The MOOoD”. She is about to record a cover, nothing fancy, no special effects, and post it on their FB page, they are going to like it and that will be it. She won’t give up though and few months later, there it is: Lucia’s second attempt, but this time just a bit different. The balcony and the digital camera are still there, but this time she has a keyboard instead of a guitar. She is about to record a cover of “Silence”, post it on their FB page, but they are going to love it and shoot a video for it. A video that will not be fancy, will not have any special effects, but that will go viral and reach 1 million views in just a few months. She was only 17 at the time, the only contact she ever had with music was being part of a children’s choir and she learned how to play the keyboard from YouTube tutorials. However, it was her talent that brought her here and in June 2012 Lucia got noticed by Stefan Lucian, the CEO of Global Music Management. A management contract was signed and Lucia now works on her new songs side by side with Marius Moise, the ex lead singer of “The MOOoD”, the band to which she feels she owes so much.
In August she is finally put face to face with one of her biggest fears and gets up on a designated stage at the Summer Well festival. There she is, without the balcony, without the digital camera, but with hundreds of eyes watching her. She still has her voice and a keyboard and that’s all she really needs for the crowd to love her.
The summer of 2012 also comes along with a new song and a new video: “Me Over You”, the promise that Lucia is here to stay. “Silence” has now more that 2 and a half million views on YouTube and her FB fan page is growing constantly with fans from all over the world. The show must go on, they say, and Lucia is currently working on her first album, which is going to be released in 2013. She still loves to rehearse on her balcony.
