Amartya Rahut, popularly known by all as Bobo, hails from the laid back city of Kolkata (erstwhile Calcutta). Bobo grew up amidst a lot of rock music. A proud Xaverian (St. Xaviers alumnus) from school till college, Bobo always found himself plugged into the Kolkata music scene.
A devout, obsessed follower and believer of the Beatles, Bobo began his musical career with the St. Xaviers College band as the lead guitarist when he was just 15, pipping many a talented senior to the coveted post.
Whilst at that, Bobo played as a professional guitar player in Kolkata from 1992 till 2000, with some of the most legendary acts in Kolkata at that time, namely Shiva, The Fifth Dimension, Cactus, Paras Pathor (founding member), Prakriti, Asteroids etc.
It was during the later part of those formative years, Bobo made up his mind about becoming a Music Composer because he felt that would give him the maximum release of expression towards his art.
Because he knew he had to take his art to places, he opted for finding a bigger canvas. And decided to shift base to Mumbai in the year 2001.
After going through an intense but supremely enriching phase of extreme struggle to get going and survive in one of the most competitive cities in the world as far as music and media are concerned, Bobo finally managed to establish himself as one of the premier Music Composer/Music Producer for the thriving Advertising industry.
Having done music for over 2500 TV commercials, and having worked on some of the biggest brands and campaigns including Godrej, ITC, McDonalds, Hero Motocorp, Bharti Axa, HDFC Bank, Max New York, Haywards, Kingfisher IPL, Kurkure, Mirinda, Thums Up etc, Bobo has, to his credit, the prestigious bronze at Cannes Advertising Festival for his Levis Slim Fit Commercial for best soundtrack. He also won the award for best soundtrack at Promax for his very popular MTV/Nickelodeon 'Jingle Bell - Punjabi'.
Other than ads, Bobo has composed and produced one of the most popular Channel signature tune for Colors, along with Zee Classic, Zee Zindagi, Viacom 18, AXN etc and has also composed various TV shows/serial title tracks, like Bingo, Chhote Miyan Bade Miyan, Khatron Ke Khiladi (South Africa Season), Maata Ki Chowki, India's Got Talent etc.
Perhaps the most coveted feather in the cap of this musician, Bobo has composed for 2 wonderful Marathi films including the national award winning "Uttarayan" and "evdhasa Aabhal" for which, he won a lot of accolades and awards, including Zee Alfa Award and V. Shantaram Award.
Besides this, Bobo has been a part of 2 independent bands in Mumbai -?Om and Band Called Nine.
OM consisted of Bobo as the composer along with his old colleague and friend Amit Trivedi as arranger, Sriram Iyer as Singer & Ram Narayan as percussionist.
Band Called Nine consisted of the lyricist Neelesh Mishra and the vocalist Shilpa Rao. They got voted the best non-film award by a band at the prestigious GIMA Awards.
A talented Music Producer, Bobo has also composed and produced music for Bollywood films such as Yashraj Films' Aurangzeb.
Currently composing music for TV commercials and a few upcoming Bollywood film projects, Bobo believes that Melody and Lyrics are the most important tools for a song to succeed. And if the 'Sound' is contemporary then you have music that's sure to find a way into people's hearts.
A music composer who is an avid Beatles follower, Bobo tries to emulate that in his work and in all humility feels that his forte is Composing a good melody that, hopefully, will stand the test of time.
