Born: April 13, 1976 in Connecticut, USA
In July 2015, completed the BMI Conducting Workshop for the Film Composer under the tutelage of Symphony Director Lucas Richman.
Music Producer Joel J. Richard’s passion for music sparked at age twelve, with the purchase of a 4-track recorder and an electric guitar. Coming of age, while touring with bands in the New York hard-rock scene, Joel lists a diversified range of creative influences (from Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd; Tool to Tom Waits; Portishead to Peter Gabriel). Joel’s unorthodox background in music would go on to shape his sound—fusing time-honored musicality with moving atmospheric experimentation. With equal measure, his versatile talent serves raw and unbridled industrial rock-influenced compositions, and beautifully intimate acoustic ensemble scores.
In 2000 Joel was recruited by music editor Brian Richards (Fight Club) of Media Cutters—where he honed his eye for matching score to picture. By 2001 prominent composers John Powell and Gavin Greenaway noticed Joel’s talents and fostered his skills as a composer. Richard collaborated with Powell on numerous scores; including the Universal Studios hit "The Bourne Identity”.
Embarking on his own Richard scored the psychological thriller "Between”, indie dramas “Locked” and “Pope Dreams”, and the award winning film "Mario’s Story".
Joel’s knack for inventive hybrid composition is evident in his scores for the ABC Family mini-series "Fallen”, Ridley and Tony Scott’s Emmy nominated “The Andromeda Strain”, Showtime’s thriller/drama “Compound Fracture”, as well as the ABC Family series “Ravenswood”.
Joel’a most recent projects include the Lionsgate/Thunder Road feature “John Wick”, the ABC hit TV series “Quantico”, and the thriller “No Evil”. Joel is currently working on “John Wick: Chapter Two”.
