Låpsley was born in York, North Yorkshire. Her middle name, Lapsley, is her mother's maiden name. In 2011, at the age of 14, she was nominated by her teachers as a "Gold Ambassador" to promote sports and the Olympics in her school on behalf of the Youth Sport Trust.
