Ephemerals are a London based soul family featuring an allstar cast of musicians. Founded by Hillman Mondegreen, writer-producer and founder member for Hannah Williams and The Tastemakers, he felt instantly that Franglo-American singer Wolfgang Valbrun was the fresh and soulful voice that would command some serious attention. Wolf, originally from New York but who has been living in Paris since the age of 14, had only began singing in public three years prior, but quickly established himself as a continental star with his band Marvellous. Wolf brought with him his trusted sax man from Marvellous- Thierry who was paired with Damian who supplies trumpet for Kalakuta Millionaires and Hillman’s afrobeat supergroup Keke Mokoro to complete the Epehemerals horn section. James and Adam who play organ and bass for Hannah Williams and the Tastemakers were also recruited along with Jimi Needles, who has been Hillman’s drummer of choice since they met at university in 2008. Rob Jones of the Gene Dudley Group fame was brought in to contribute to the first and mix the second Ephemerals album. The first full band rehearsal was on the first day of recording. Hillman taught the band song by song and within 3 days, the 7-piece had recorded the debut – Nothin Is Easy, live to analogue tape at The Cowshed in North London. After a couple of 7″ releases on Mocambo and Colemine, Jalapeno Records took notice and brought them in to the roster to give the album the promotion push it deserved. It was a move that paid off with the band immediately having their track Life Is Good featured on US drama – Homelands and Nothin Is Easy hitting number 1 on the Hype Machine Chart over Christmas 2014 with the likes of Indie Shuffle, Hilly Dilly and Pigeons and Planes all raving about the record. Soon after they were playlisted on BBC Radio 1 Xtra and booked into Bestival, Mostly Jazz and Glastonbury. After a summer tour Hillman wrote the follow up album- Chasin Ghosts, whilst on holiday in Switzerland in just one week over the summer and the band went back to the studio to get it recorded before a release in October 2015. Now the album is out Ephemerals have both UK and European tours planned to play it live.
