by Charlotte DillonGospel singer Bryan Wilson was only 14 when he recorded his debut album, Bryan's Songs. It was released on the Malaco Records label in 1996. There was a three-year gap between the making of the debut and the sophomore, Growing Up, which was completed when Wilson was 18. Wilson was born in Danville, IL, on November 3, 1981. He was raised in a musical family. His mother, along with her sisters, brothers, and father, were the members of a group called the Davis Singers. Wilson was only about six when he first began singing with the family. His grandfather was one of the biggest musical influences in Wilson's life. It seemed fitting, in a way, that he chose his grandfather's funeral to perform solo for the first time. At 14, Wilson had a voice that demanded attention. He started his recording career at just about the same time his body started changing on him, taking away the ease at which he had hit high notes in some of his fans' favorite songs. The next few years were tough, as he relearned his own voice and abilities. During that time he worked on his singing, attended Baylor University in his home state, and turned to ministry when he felt the call touch his heart. He was ready in 1999 for the completion of his second album, rightly titled Growing Up.
