Sarah K is an R&B singer, and former Miss BC contestant from North Vancouver, Canada who started singing and writing music at age 13. She is now recognized as one of Canada’s most uniquely talented up-and-coming recording artist.
Sarah K is most influenced by Mariah Carey, and contemporary R&B artists such as Alicia Keys, The Weeknd, Lauryn Hill and Joss Stone. She also listens to greats like Aretha Franklin and Chaka Khan to further craft that soul in her voice. Sarah K released her debut album, “All My Life” in the Fall of 2013 – An album described as a sultry mix of RnB, Soul, Pop, Electronic and Hip Hop. Sarah K’s goal was to create an album that explores vocal range, while expressing tone across genres in and outside of RnB.
This year, Sarah K was invited to perform her inspirational anti-bullying song "Fly" to a room full of community leaders, Evander Holyfield, and Carol Todd. Sarah K has since pledged to donate all the sales from her song “Fly” to Amanda Todd’s Legacy Memorial Fund, and The CKNW Orphans Fund. Sarah K has hosted four concerts that benefit anti-bullying, and youth mental health issues.
In September Sarah K performed the title track from her album at Tony n Tinas Wedding show at Ballys Casino in Las Vegas. Sarah K traveled to Cuba to film the video for her song, “Runnin’ Away” and to perform at the Sol Sirenas Coral Resort in Varadero to a capacity crowd in an open-air amphitheater. Back home, Sarah K played to 600 plus fans at Joe’s Apartment on Granville Street; the first RnB show for the club. In March 2013, Sarah K was interviewed and performed on the National OmniTV program “V-Mix” as part of the 2013 Canadian Music Festival in Toronto, and has been showcased in a number of international publications. Sarah K was the guest performer at “The 2013 Pink Shirt Day Ladies Luncheon”, “Mike and Manny’s” Olympic Ski Camp, Sarah k continues to support and perform at events in support of the battered and abused women of Vancouver’s Downtown East Side.
With the formation of her new band, The Soul Collective, the Summer of 2013 will see Sarah K performing at a number of fashion events, The Vancouver Pride Parade, Status Nightclub, The Richmond Night Market, Caribbean Days Festival, and West Vancouver’s Harmony Arts Festival to name a few.
Sarah K is continuing to write, record, and perform non-stop at all the major nightclubs, venues, and festivals in Vancouver. Her highly anticipated album is scheduled for release in the next few months with songs that have been produced by some of the industries best producers here in Canada, the US and Germany. Her singles, "All My Life" and "Free For All" are already being touted as potential Juno-award contenders for 2014, and Deadmau5 inspired song "Hands Up!" has been getting radio play in the US, and in Europe on key Top 40 stations. Her more flavorful R&B tracks have been revered by audiences from Louisiana to the East Coast to back here in Vancouver where her local fans cant get enough.
In 2012, Sarah K was spot-lighted on the ShawTV music program, "On Da Grine with Valentine", and she opened the 25th Annual Caribbean Days Festival in North Vancouver with an electrifying mix of Reggae, R&B/Soul and Top 40. She has taken the stage with Juno Nominee, Tony Anthony, Tonye Aganaba and dancehall reggae star, Culture Brown. Sarah K has released singles with MC Static, MC Quote, and Baby C.
2012 has also seen Sarah K partner with Artist Manager Christopher Steffler from Mercury Management Canada. Her new management has been instrumental in moving Sarah K towards her goals.
Sarah Ks first live performances were at Capilano College Theater in North Vancouver at age 15. “Performing my own songs on stage made me realize my childhood dreams can come true”. After catching the performance bug, she entered numerous local and national talent and singing competitions and wowed audiences with her soulful voice. Sarah K continued to write music that reflected her journey and started associating herself with other local recording/performing artists who were pursuing an inspired career in the music industry. She spends as much time as she can in the studio learning the process of composing and recording music and has refined and recorded her own songs.
2010 and 2011 were busy years; starting with two performances at The River Rock Show Theater as a special guest of A-Star Productions. Sarah K performed her single “In Your Dreams” to a packed house. Soon after, Sarah K performed again with Devon a.k.a. Mr. Metro and the “Metro Squad” at the Olympic Kick-off, “2010 Best of the Best Urban Showcase”. Later she performed again at The Fairview backing up the “Metro Squad”, as well as performing two of her own songs with the band. In May 2010 The Backstage Lounge, on historic Granville Island, saw the Debut of “Sarah K and The Promise”. It was Sarah’s true break-out performance where she commanded an amazing performance with the 7-Piece band. Shortly after that she performed at Shine Nightclub for a Caribbean Fashion Show which raised funds for Chilean earthquake relief. On July 2, 2010, Sarah participated in the 2010 Miss BC Pageant. As part of her participation, Sarah hosted and headlined a fundraising concert for “Cops for Cancer” charity at The Cellar Nightclub on Granville Street. Sarah saw this as an opportunity to make a difference for a good cause. The show opened with the “Paul Tavai-Latta Polynesian Dancers” and then Hip Hop sensations the “Groundbreakers” fired everyone up for Sarah K. The 2010 Miss BC Pageant was able to raise over $32,000 for the “Cops for Cancer” charity. In mid-July Sarah K performed backing vocals for Jamaican born Reggae artist “Daddy Roy and The Messenger Band” at The Surrey Fusion Festival in front of a crowd 6000 strong. Also last summer, while working in the studio, Sarah K has sang the Canadian and American National Anthems at a Vancouver Canadians baseball game and a Vancouver Whitecaps soccer game. The year ended with two big performances with Juno Award winning reggae artist Mikey Dangerous and R&B sensation, Mario.
Sarah K feels strongly that it is through music and the arts that we have the potential to bring people together. Fulfilling her dream and satisfying her passion for music is what continues to motivate Sarah K today. She is always looking for new opportunities to better her craft, to aspire and to continue to find solace in music.
