Christian von Blohn was born in 1963 in Homburg (Saar) and graduated from the Musikakademie Saarbrücken in 1987 with a first-class degree in Church Music (choral and orchestral direction with Volker Hempfling and Dieter Loskant) and also with a degree in Music Education, majoring in the organ. He also studied the piano with Kurt Schmitt and chamber music with Walter Blankenheim and Jean Micault as well as the harpsichord with Martin Galling. He continued his musical studies in Switzerland at the Conservatoire de Lausanne with André Luy, where he was awarded the Premier Prix de Virtuosité in 1991. Further studies with Daniel Chorzempa led him to the Musik-Akademie Basel, the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Royal School of Church Music in the UK, where he was under the tutelage of Peter Hurford and Julian Smith.
