Concerto soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician, Danny Driver is known internationally for the exceptional quality of his performances and recordings, the imagination and breadth of his repertoire, and for the individuality of his interpretations of core repertoire works and neglected masterpieces. Critics have praised his ‘bold, exuberant and precise’ performances [The Guardian], ‘impeccable technique and musicianship’ [Gramophone], and ‘poise, power, and passion’ [BBC Music Magazine]. 　　  　　Driver’s forthcoming orchestral engagements include re-invitations from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of Opera North, and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, performing works by Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and Chopin. He makes his début with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in January 2014 performing CPE Bach’s Double Concerto for Fortepiano and Harpsichord on a period instrument. Driver’s forthcoming recital schedule includes returns to the Wigmore Hall’s London Pianoforte Series, the Bridgewater Hall Midday Concert Series, the Husum Festival of Piano Rarities (Germany) and début performances at the Amsterdam Musiekgebouw and the Festival O/Modernt in Sweden, where he performs music by Rameau, Dukas , Debussy and Ravel. 　　  　　Recent orchestral highlights have included performances of Beethoven’s ‘Emperor’ Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Barbican Centre and Symphony Hall in Birmingham, concerts with the Minnesota Orchestra (Tchaikovsky), American Symphony Orchestra (Saint-Saëns), Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of Opera North, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto at Hong Kong’s City Hall, and his BBC Proms début with the BBC Concert Orchestra in 2011. Conductors with whom Driver has collaborated include Andrew Litton, Richard Farnes, Martyn Brabbins, Leon Botstein, Johannes Fritzsch, Rory Macdonald, Rebecca Miller, Christopher Warren-Green, and Bramwell Tovey. 　　  　　As a Hyperion recording artist, Danny has won consistent international acclaim for his recordings, including a 2010 Gramophone Award Nomination for his double-disc of York Bowen’s six Piano Sonatas. His subsequent recording of CPE Bach Keyboard Sonatas was selected by National Public Radio (USA) as one of the Top Ten Classical CDs of 2010, as well as being singled out by Gramophone Magazine (Editor’s Choice), International Piano Magazine, and the Daily Telegraph (five stars). His recording of Scottish composer Erik Chisholm’s Piano Concertos (BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conductor Rory Macdonald) was released in 2012 and selected by BBC Music Magazine as Orchestral Disc of the Month. Forthcoming releases are to include piano works by Handel and Schumann. 　　  　　Danny Driver’s solo recital schedule includes regular performances at London’s Wigmore Hall. Of his most recent recital there, the Classical Source wrote of his ‘truly spell-binding, visionary performance of Beethoven’s last piano sonata’. Other recent engagements have included the University of Houston International Piano Festival, Musical Arts Society of New Orleans, the Husum Festival of Piano Rarities and, in the UK, festivals including Chichester, Petworth, Windsor, and Myra Hess Day at London’s National Gallery. Driver’s interest in new music has taken him to a mini-series at King’s Place exploring the piano music of György Ligeti in collaboration with director and visual artist Netia Jones. 　　  　　As a chamber musician Danny Driver has extensive knowledge of the repertoire for piano and strings. He has been engaged regularly by the Bard Music Festival (New York), as Guest Artist at the recently established Birdfoot Chamber Music Festival (New Orleans), and featured prominently at the Australian Chamber Music Festival in 2011, as he was during 2012-13 at the Leeds International Concert Season Chamber Series. He enjoys regular collaborations with violinist Chloë Hanslip, ‘cellist Oliver Coates, and baritone Christian Immler, and has also worked with such artists as clarinettists Michael Collins and Alexander Fiterstein, and violinists Alexander Sitkovetsky, Alexandre da Costa and Eugene Drucker. 　　  　　Danny Driver trained with Alexander Kelly and Piers Lane whilst simultaneously gaining a first class degree in Natural Sciences at Cambridge University. He was subsequently the recipient of a Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival and School, and of an Associated Board Scholarship for postgraduate study with Irina Zaritskaya at the Royal College of Music in London. He completed his studies privately with Maria Curcio.
