The Razumovsky Symphony Orchestra consists of the best players of the Slovak Philharmonic, Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra (Bratislava), Slovak Chamber Orchestra and Opera Theatre Orchestra. The ensemble was established in 1995 exclusively for the purpose of recording for the Naxos and Marco Polo labels. In this short time the orchestra’s performances have garnered glowing reviews from the critics. Gramophone magazine has praised the orchestra’s “refinement of orchestral detail,” while in a review of the orchestra’s recording of Sousa (8.559029) the New Yorker wrote that the performances of this “polished Slovak group with strings at its core…recall the rich-toned glitter of old Vienna.”
