Hejira formed in 2010 setting up their studio 'The House of Dreams' in South- East London where they would write, rehearse, record and film. It was through this hive of activity that Hejira attracted the ears of Matthew Herbert who soon became involved in the production of their recordings. In early 2012 Hejira intensified their recording schedule, spending two solid months in the house before transferring to Herbert's Human Jerky studio in Kent to put the finishing touches to the record. Released on Accidental Records in October 2013, their debut 'Prayer Before Birth' received high critical acclaim and was launched with a filmed live performance at the Clapton Round Chapel featuring an 18-piece ensemble fitted with a choir and trombone section. The subsequently released films rounded off a series of four specially commissioned live performance films of Hejira directed by Faith Millin.
Hejira continue to curate their monthly music, art and social event called TRAUM, which they have been running since January 2012. TRAUM, with its unique combination of eclectic high quality live music, visual art interventions and free music downloads, soon developed into a vibrant cultural scene. TRAUM audiences have witnessed Hejira's diverse programming with live performances from pop vocalists such as Kwabs and Rosie Lowe, trailblazing bands such as Micachu & The Shapes and The Invisible, through to modern classical performances from the likes of Oliver Coates. In October 2013, Hejira built on these strong foundations in London to stage the first TRAUMTOUR which saw the band take these events around the UK to cities such as Manchester, Nottingham, Brighton and Cardiff.
