In the late 60s, Philadelphia was a crucible of musical talent, and may be most remembered for its impact on R&B. But from 1969-1971, it was also home to a rock band so loaded with talent that its members went on to help shape the American music scene in the 70s, 80s, and beyond ..to now. Grammny nominated songwriter,Keyboardist ROB HYMAN (Time after Time, leader of the Hooters). FIVE X grammy nominated Drummer/producer RICK CHERTOFF (Cyndi Lauper, Joan Osborne, Sophie B Hawkins, the Hooters) guitarist /writer RICK LEVY (Hermans Hermits, Tommy Roe, The Box Tops), lead vocalist DAVID KAGAN (Baby Grand) and the late great bassist BEAU JONES..were WAX. The hottest band in Philly, WAX performed a unique blend of art rock .blues, and jazz. They opened for The Byrds, Chicago, Alice Cooper,Everly Bros, John Mayall, Manfred Mann, and others. Signed in 1970 to legendary producer BOB CREWE, the band started an album at the RECORD PLANT, but was never finished due to financial difficulties at the label. In 2010 a live in studio ..no overdub recording of WAX's best material was discovered. It was recorded in May 1971 at Vanguard Studios NYC. More recently several full studio masters cut in 1970 at Philadelphia's Regent Sound, were found.
