Born in Los Angeles into a family of musicians, Evan-Alexis Christ spent his childhood in Las Vegas, where his mother played Concertmaster for the MGM Grand Celebrity Room Orchestra accompanying many of the old school standard performers like the Rat Pack, Elvis, Liberace, etc. He quickly took to playing the oboe and piano and went on to study mathematics and composition at Harvard University. Later he studied conducting at the Leipzig Music Conservatory.
