A prog rock band from Lahti, Finland founded in 1971 by Vesa Lattunen and Markus Heikkerö. Timo Vuorinen, Harri Pystynen and Vesa Lehtinen joined them soon and the band released their first album in Autumn 1972. Singer Vesa Lehtinen left soon after and he was replaced by Auli Lattunen, Vesa Lattunen's sister. This was the lineup on Haikara's second album Geafar in 1973.
Haikara released their third album Iso Lintu in 1975. The singer had changed again; Matti Heinänen sang on the third album. After this album the band split up. Vesa Lattunen soon gathered new musicians and founded the band again, this time to play more funk-influenced music. The lineup was Lattunen, Eljas Holm, Jorma Nikulainen and Hannu Rontu. This lineup released only one single in 1976.
Vesa Lattunen reformed the band in the 1990s and Haikara released albums in 1998 and 2001. The last lineup was Lattunen, Jan Schaper, Tommi Mäkinen, Jukka Teerisaari, Saara Hedlund and Hannu Kivilä. Lattunen died in 2005 and Haikara hasn't been active after that.
