Orbital是九十年代相当重要的Techno乐团之一，成立于1987年，由英国的两兄弟：Phil Hartnoll和Paul Hartnoll组成，有时简称"P&P Hartnoll"。Orbital的团名取名自英国的环状快速道路M25，该道路在80年代末举办过许多大大小小的Rave Party，是英国Rave文化早期的重要发源地。 　　Phil和Paul分别生于1964年和1968年。80年代初期正值两兄弟青少年时，他俩便接触了当时的Punk乐，Hip-Hop和电子乐，包括对Orbital往后影响深远的Kraftwerk乐团。Phil甚至还在Hip-Hop重要城市New York待过，Orbital早年还有Electro风格的作品呢。再加上摇滚乐的影响，Orbital的乐迷不只是舞曲迷，摇滚乐爱好者也不少。 　　虽然88年就有作品发表，但89年的单曲Chime才让Orbital浮上台面。Orbital并没有花太多成本制作这首曲子，只使用了一台四轨录音机，一台Keyboard，一台TB-303和一台TR-909电子鼓。虽然内容简单，但是音乐组合很新鲜。Chime不但让Orbital在英国的流行榜上榜上有名，同时也是Orbital现场表演的名曲。在这之前，Phil是个砌砖工人，Paul则组了一个名为Noddy & the Satellites的乐团。说到现场表演，那又是Orbital受人赞赏的地方。Orbital现场表演从不使用预先录好的音乐，而真的是"现场演奏"。Orbital曾经和Moby及Aphex Twin等知名艺人同台演出。 　　Orbital在节拍上走碎拍路线，这点反倒是和大多数的Techno乐团不一样。除了第一张同名专辑外，Orbital的专辑总有著很强的结构性，都有自己的主题和制作概念，这点是其他大多数只是许多单曲集合的专辑所比不上的。Orbital也常在专辑中批评现今的社会、时事，譬如专辑In Sides即以环保为主题。 　　2004年后，两兄弟分道扬镳。但在2009年夏，他们将复出。 　　Orbital are an English electronic dance music duo from Sevenoaks, Kent, England consisting of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll. The band's name is taken from Greater London's orbital motorway, the M25, which was central to the early rave scene and party network in the South East during the early days of acid house.In addition, the cover art on three of their albums shows stylised atomic orbitals. Orbital have been both critically and commercially successful and known particularly for their element of live improvisation during shows, a rarity among techno acts. They were initially influenced by early electro and punk rock.
