Jessi Malay was born to perform. Ever since she was able to sing and dance, she has been captivating audiences around the world with her talent and beauty. With a biracial background and a multiracial family tree, Jessi Malay grew up diverse with influences ranging from Filipino folk rhythms, Salsa and Samba, all the way to Jazz and Hip-Hop.
At age 2, Jessi started dance lessons. By the age of 8, she was touring the world with performing group Rock Theater. As a teenager, Jessi signed to Jive Records as a member of the pop group No Secrets. After a successful album release, touring the country and song appearances on The Hot Chick, Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, and The Powerpuff Girls Movie, the group dissolved. A year later, Jessi Malay signed to Reprise/Warner Bros. Records and began work on her solo album. At Warner Bros., Jessi worked with producers such as Jonathan “JR” Rotem (Destiny’s Child, Rick Ross, Jason Derulo) and Stargate (Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Wiz Khalifa), as well as collaborated with artists Trey Songz, Yung Joc and Lil Scrappy.
Since negotiating her release from Warner Bros., Jessi has taken control of every aspect of her career, surrounding herself with a talented team and co-founding her own production company, Wolfiskin. She has applied her experience to every aspect of her business: helping write video treatments, producing choreography and executive producing her new album.
Making the music she wants to make is Jessi’s number one focus. Working with upcoming producers/writers Deep Watters, Morgan Taylor Reid (7Lions, House, Plug In Stereo) and Mika Lett (The Writer’s Camp, Macy Gray), Jessi is developing a project filled with world and dance influences that have shaped all aspects of her artistry, style, and sound. She recently released the single, Like You with Prophet (RedOne, Ryan Tedder) and her free viral single, Role Play, and is gearing up for her new album to be released later in 2012.
In addition to all of the above, Jessi Malay added host to her growing resume, having recently co-hosted the first season of Fox’s TV show, Dish Nation and covering the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. She has also completed her B.A. in World Arts and Cultures/Dance at UCLA, where she studied with Hip-Hop choreography legend, Rennie Harris. With new music underway, various film projects in production and a promising career in hosting, the future is bright for Jessi Malay.
