The French baritone, Frédéric Caton, was initially professor of technology. He studied at the Conservatoire de Nice, then at the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles.   In 1994 Frédéric Caton joined the roster of the Opéra de Lyon, where he appeared in roles as Colline (La Bohème by Puccini), Il Frate (Don Carlos by Verdi), Sarastro and Der Sprecher (Die Zauberflöte by Mozart), Bartolo (Le Nozzes di Figaro by Mozart), Don Fernando (Fidelio by L.v. Beethoven) and the title role in Le Nozzes di Figaro (Mozart), as well as the productions of Love of Three Oranges (Prokofiev) or Elektra (Strauss).   Frédéric Caton also performed Johann (Werther by Massenet) in Vienna and London, Frère Laurent (Roméo et Juliette by Charles Gounod) at the Opéra de Nice, Le Médecin (Pelléas et Mélisande by Debussy), Zuniga (Carmen by Georges Bizet) in Tokyo and the Opéra National de Paris. He also sang in Katia Kabanova (Janacek) at Liceu of Barcelone, Les Troyens (Berlioz) and Le Nozzes di Figaro (Mozart) at the Salzburg Festival, Dr Faustus (Ferruccio Busoni) at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Jenufa (Janacek) and La Damnation de Faust (Berlioz) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, L’Africaine (Meyerbeer) at the Opéra National du Rhin and Katia Kabanova (Janacek) at Palais Garnier. Other projects in which he sang include Tosca (Puccini) at the Opéra de Marseille, Le Nozzes di Figaro (Mozart) at the Opéra de Paris, La Rondine (Rossini) at Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse and Théâtre du Châtelet. Frédéric Caton took part in the production of The Nose in Lausanne in 2001 as well as in Nantes and Angers in 2004.
